About Us

Welcome to Castle Mountain Chalets!

“Seeming to stand out in the centre of the valley is a very remarkable mountain…which looks exactly like a giant castle!” -Sir James Hector

Hector was part of a Canadian Pacific Railway expedition that helped open up the Canadian Rocky Mountains by rail for settlement and adventure in the late 1800s. Today, Castle Mountain is still considered one of the most picturesque peaks in the Bow Valley with its castle-like face and beautiful colours.

In 1939, Grandfather Yerxa, his wife and their six children travelled from Blackie, Alberta to fulfill their dream of a summer resort in the Rockies. In the shadow of Castle Mountain they found the ideal location. Castle Mountain Bungalows included nine individual cabins, a bathhouse, a main lodge to house Grandmother’s Tea Room and Grandfather’s Texaco Service Station.

Over the next decades the summer resort went through many alterations in name, operation, size and family ownership. Castle Mountain Village became a year round venture, the main lodge received a major facelift, and by 1997 the aging cabins were all replaced and upgraded.

On June 15, 1999 third generation owner, grandson Jim McLeod and family, sold the property to the Decore family of Edmonton. Brothers Lyndon and Matthew Decore now own and run Castle Mountain Chalets as an Osprey Resort Property.

Getaway to peaceful adventure

Reminiscent of expeditions of the past, today’s Castle Mountain Chalets guests will hear the sound of steel wheels running across the rails and train whistles in the distance. It will remind them of a simpler time, inspiring them to choose their own pace and their own Banff National Park adventure in this nature lover’s paradise.

Located in the heart of Banff National Park, midway between Banff and Lake Louise, you’ll find our chalets a breathtaking year-round escape for groups, couples and families-just as Grandfather Yerxa imagined.
